Lacey
Hi. We're not from Virginia, but I'm
proud of my girl Lacey.
She's a MxM or double merle, blind, but
she doesn't know the difference. She was an ARPH referral
from Ohio and now lives in Webster, NY.
We love going to the park and playing in
the snow. There's an open field where water collects and
freezes in the winter and we go out on the ice and chase
each other. Lacey loves to run and slide on the ice. Lacey
is about three years old and weighs about 40 lbs. I can't
remember life before Lacey.

Emma
Here's a picture of me and my dog, Emma.
Unfortunately Emma passed away a few weeks before Christmas.
But I just wanted to post this as a tribute to her and
especially to Aussie Rescue.
After my dog Macy (a Keeshond) died in
2003 I took some time to decide on another dog. A couple who
are close friends had a Aussie whose temperament and
intelligence was a lot like my Keeshonds'. I went online put
in an application and was accepted for the adoption process.
I picked out Emma and was introduced to her by her adoption
mom. She had belonged to a family who's young son had just
begun to walk and Emma then became a problem. Emma was 6
when adopted and so had already been house trained and could
sit.
She also had developed a way of smacking
her jaws when she wanted something to eat.! Of course it
took sometime to settle her into my house, I live in the
City of Richmond so the neighborhood is rather busy.
After several break outs, and a
lot positive reinforcement she finally calmed down, paid
attention, and started to obey. She took to learning the
boundaries and limits. I taught her to stay for long periods
of time and to shake her coat after coming in from outside.
With a little more time I'm sure we could have gone on to
other things... she was particularly fast and agile like
most Aussies.
In closing I want to say that its tough
taking on a rescue dog... Emma came with issues... but none
which we didn't, in the end, get over. These are great dogs,
loyal companions and a smart as you want them to be.
I know there will be another in my life
soon, and I'm sure he or she will be as good as Emma.

Trace
I adopted Trace back in May and my
family immediately fell in love with him. I think my mother
loves him more than me. I work on a golf course and he loves to
run around the course and chase away the geese. He still needs
to get used to jumping onto the golf cart and staying on there
but he is a great golf course dog. His passion, besides getting
belly rubs and treats, is playing with tennis balls. If I have
a tennis ball in my hand he goes absolutely bonkers. I am 100%
satisfied with my Aussie and he was a perfect fit for me!

Rufus
Rufus found us at the Richmond SPCA. According to his records, he was found by
Animal Control as a stray with horrible open bite wounds. After he received
medical care from the local emergency vet, the SPCA had an opening and took him
in.
He was adopted by a family who witnessed seizures that must have scared
them to the point of returning him to the SPCA. Thank goodness they did! As
soon as I saw those baby-blues, it was love at first sight. We have been
working closely with our vet to manage his epilepsy, and now we are working on
manners.
He is everything you hear about Aussies. Smart, smart, smart, loyal,
loving, aloof inside, a devil outside, beautiful, and gentle. He is a wonderful
addition to our family and we are so lucky to have found him!!

Bunny
& Duff
I adopted
Bunny a Mini Aussie from Georgia on
the NON-ARPH list. She was turned in
due to her high energy level. She is
a red merle with hazel colored
eyes, she is about 10 months old.
Absolutely adorable. Loves people
very very much. She also likes to
herd small dogs at the dog park and
is very affectionate with everyone
she meets. We are teaching her to
swim like her big brother Duffy.
Duff is a
dog from a merle to merle litter I
got him 4 and 1/2 years ago at 4
weeks old. His mom stopped nursing
and they had to adopt the dogs out.
He is the best dog in the world.
Ball obsessed though. Very sweet and
social with people who will throw
the ball for him. Big fluffy goof
ball. A blue merle with red brown
eyes. Loves to swim in the water to
retrieve anything you throw. Loves
the snow and very obedient always
looking to play.

Dude
I am the PROUD friend of a great Aussie named
Dude. We have been together for almost ten years
this December.
He is a loyal
companion to me all the years it was just him
and I and he is a great big brother to my new
son and a loyal follower to my husband.
I just recently had a baby and my guy stepped up
to the plate and is the wonderful big brother I
knew he would be. AUSSIES RULE.....

Bruno
This is/was my Bruno.
He's a working dog now in a service home. He
loved little dogs, he loved the water and he
loved smiling for the camera. He loved
everything. In his new home, he alerts his owner
to phone calls, the crying grandbaby and
anything else he feels needs attention. I'm so
proud of him. He's doing great in his new home.
The problem is, I now need a new Aussie! I'll be
checking your website for potential adoptees.
Thank you.

I saw your Aussie Proud Page and I had to
send in some photos of my girl, Jazz.
Jazz is a 7 year old Aussie. I adopted her
from ARPH when she was 18 months old. She
was a Stock Dog Registry Aussie who was sold
to a family for a house pet…… her story was
that she was not manageable…..
She was
Cassie
ARPH #4646
from North Carolina.
Getting to know Jazz has been a wonderful
journey that I am still enjoying immensely!
This is an amazing dog. The first week I
had her, she brought me 4 field mice (I
live in a very rural area), as if to say,
“Look!! Finally, a job!!” She is super
smart and has such a sense of humor! She
always has a smile on her face. It’s so
hard not to laugh at her. She will SEEK
OUT eye contact from anyone she meets and
then start going through her repertoire to
see if she can get the person to cough up a
treat! She gets along with everyone,
including my corgi, who is not particularly
dog-friendly…… She has been a wonderful
companion and partner for me as we teach
freestyle to 4H kids. They just love her.
We are very fortunate to be able to have fun
at a variety of activities. Jazz is
currently active in Canine Musical
Freestyle, Rally, Flyball, and DiscDog.
She’s just a few points away from her
Flyball Master Champion title and has only
one leg to go for her first AKC Rally
title. She seems to enjoy just about any
activity that I try to do with her. She
even tried her paw at a little doggie acting
in a local production of “Annie Get Your
Gun”.
THANK YOU, ARPH, for this wonderful, sweet
companion!

Howdy
Y'all!
What
started out as "Just Fun" Frisbee playing has
become something a bit more. Banjo and I
have competed in our first Competitive Frisbee
Event in Middlebury, Connecticut. Banjo
and I competed in four events (Novice Level) and
won 1st place and 2nd place in two of those
events.
I
also volunteer with "Big Brothers & Big Sisters"
of Connecticut. My "Connecticut Little
Brother" and Banjo competed in Wallingford,
Connecticut and won 3rd place in the Junior
Division. An excellent accomplishment
being his first time competing.
Banjo
really doesn't know he is competing he is just
having a great time. Although he probably
does wonder why playtime is only lasting for 60
seconds at a time. When he is used to
playtime lasting 40-50 minutes without breaks.
Lastly, Banjo was evaluated and has passed
the 10-Step Canine Good Citizen Test. He has
received a certificate from the American Kennel
Club. As you can tell, I am VERY PROUD of
my "Munchable Nugget".

Dear Fellow Aussie Lovers!
I found your website because I had found an
Aussie at the Chesterfield Humane Society and
wanted to see about getting her into a foster
situation. However, when I adopted her (to get
her off “death row”) I found that she has now
settled into my home and life so incredibly well
that I can’t imagine my life without her! I was
first made aware of your organization while I
lived in Milford, PA and some of my clients were
active members in your Honesdale branch.
Aussies are fantastic dogs, and I am very lucky
that one has found me to spend her life with me!
My other dog, who was very happy as an only
child, loves her new sister, and I can’t believe
I ever thought that “two dogs would be far too
much!”

Aspen the Tri was my
first, got him as a pup, fell in love and then a
friend of mine told me about a red who needed a
home... hence Chief became Aspen's brother.
Chief was about year old.
They were happy happy together but then I started
looking more and more and I contacted
Gayle
Lay about a
little girl she rescued from a farmer in West
Virginia. Brought Kelly home and the boys couldn't
keep up with her energy.... If I had more land I
would add a fourth and so on, which is in the plans
for the future!
My wife has fallen in
love with the breed and my so did my neighbor.
Funny story actually... After I moved to
Midlothian from Richmond, my neighbor's dog had just
died and I showed him my pups and he was amazed at
their obedience, demeanor, playfulness etc. Then out
of the blue a week later a friend of his in Powhatan
contacted him and told him that friends of theirs
were moving to California and could not bring their
two Aussies with them and they were heart broken
because they were afraid to give them to just
anyone. So Dave went to see them and the next thing
I know we had the Aussie corner on our street.
I can't tell you what
they mean to us. They were in our wedding ceremony
just this past June. We love them so much and really
can't wait till we can move into a bigger house with
more land. We have already talked about constructing
indoor/outdoor kennels and such at our new place.
Hopefully that happens within 2-4 years :).
Anyway, that is the brief
story. Gayle was very helpful with Kelly and I want
her to know that she has been a doll, full of energy
and crazy like the Tasmanian devil outside, but a
total lap dog indoors!
